Sample Academic Plans

The Critical Race and Ethnic Studies major can be completed in four years for students who were admitted to UC Santa Cruz as frosh or two years for those who were admitted as transfer students.CRES also offers a 3-year pathwayThe CRES Program welcomes students switching from other majors; you should meet with the undergraduate advisor to discuss a plan to keep you on track to meet your graduation goal.

At a minimum, students will complete the ER and DC general education through specific course requirements of the major. It is possible to complete some other general education (CC, IM, PR, TA) requirements through electives students may choose.

Please note: Some approved electives for the CRES major may have pre-requisites listed (e.g., ANTH or FILM courses) or may have restricted enrollment (e.g., juniors and seniors) where CRES majors must seek instructor permission to enroll. For courses outside of CRES, you will need to request a permission code from the other department. Please see the master list of courses for more information and consult with the CRES General Catalog for official course information.
